RUSTIC DOUGH BOWL
Our dough bowl candles are comprised of a hand-carved, wooden dough bowl which has been coated with a fire-resistant coating in order to promote safe candle-burning (always be sure to follow our Candle Care instructions and watch your candle at all times). Due to the hand-carved nature of these dough bowls, wax volume and vessel dimensions are estimated, as no two bowls are exactly the same. This also correlates to burn time, as the depth of the bowl impacts the burn time.

ALWAYS ALLOW A FULL MELT POOL -
Jars / Tins -
Always allow the melted wax to reach the side of the vessel. This is called a full melt pool. This could take anywhere from 3 - 4 hours. If the candle doesn’t achieve a full melt pool on each burn (for example, if it were only lit for an hour or two), it could tunnel - which shortens the life of the candle.
Dough Bowls -
Your dough bowl was designed so that the perfect burn is achieved when the melt pool (melted wax when lit) almost reaches the edge of your dough bowl. This can take around 3 - 4 hours. However, this is an open vessel candle, so even the smallest (nearly undetectable) draft could cause the candle to burn un-evenly or create a full melt pool slower than normal.
SAFETY FIRST -
Never leave your candle unattended, keep away from drafts, burn on a level fire-resistant surface and always extinguish the wicks when melt pool has almost reached the sides of the vessel. Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at one time.
CLEAN YOUR WICK -
Keep wick trimmed short (3/16th of an inch), and remove all easily-removable ash from wick prior to lighting. This can be done by pinching the black portion of the wick between your thumb and index finger. Failure to do so can cause the candle to extinguish itself. Discontinue use when silver wick clips are visible, or a 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.
Sometimes it takes a few tries for the wick to take the flame. Don’t give up! You may melt a bit of the wax around the wick with your lighter, to assist the melted wax in flowing up the wick.
HELP PREVENT DISCOLORATION -
Our sustainable soy wax is 100% pure and additive-free. A natural characteristic of soy is that it discolors when exposed to light, or to the wood of our dough bowls (due to the tannins in the wood). Keep candle out of direct light to maintain creamy white coloring. Deepening of color around the edges of our dough bowl candles is normal.
REUSING YOUR VESSEL -
Almost all of our vessels can be reused! We suggest reusing our jar or tin vessels as flower vases, succulent vessels, desk decor, etc. We also suggest reusing your dough bowls for holiday decor, etc.
Once the silver wick clips are exposed, you should discontinue burning your candle. Once you blow out the flame, dump out any excess melted wax into a bag, and use a paper towel to carefully wipe away any remaining wax (use caution if wax is still hot). If wax still remains, fill the vessel up with boiling water and allow remaining wax to melt. Then, wipe out with a paper towel. Repeat, if necessary.
