TRIM YOUR WICK

Pinch the black portion of the wick using a wick trimmer! Our wick trimmers are made just for us, and are strong enough to cut through wooden wicks.  They are also designed to cut the wick to be the perfect height. Open your wick trimmer, rest the bottom on the top of the wax and snip for the perfect 1/8 - 3/16" wick! We find it best to do this from each side of the wick, for example, cutting the wick from left to right, and then again from right to left - this ensures an even surface.

Failure to trim your wick can cause the candle to extinguish itself, or in contrast, the candle flame could burn too high. 

If your candle flame is burning too high (over 1 inch), you are burning your candle in a drafty location, or your wick has not been trimmed enough. In this case, extinguish your candle and trim the wick shorter. Allow melt pool to fully solidify, and then relight. 

PRACTICE SAFE CANDLE BURNING

• Always trim your wick to 1/8 inch before relighting to maintain a safe flame height.
• Never leave your candle unattended - extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep. 
• A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight.
• Never keep your candle lit for longer than 4 hours.
• Wait, at least, 6 hours before relighting a candle that has already been lit that same day.
• Always extinguish the wicks when melt pool has almost reached the sides of the vessel. 
• Keep lit candle away from drafts, ceiling fans, air sources, etc.
• Burn candle on a level fire-resistant surface such as a marble coaster.
• Never place a burning candle near clothing, paper products, curtains or anything flammable.
• Never leave your candle where it could be reached or knocked over by children or pets. 
• Discontinue use when silver wick clips are visible, or a 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. 
• If lighting more than one candle at a time, keep candles at least 6 inches apart from one another.

MELT POOL

Be sure to keep your candle lit long enough for the melted wax to almost reach the sides of the vessel.  This is called a full melt pool. This process could take 2 - 4 hours to be achieved. 

A characteristic of coconut-soy wax is that a full melt pool is sometimes not achieved until you get half-way through the life of your candle - and that is ideal!  A major benefit of our switch to coconut-soy wax, is that this wax is a little more forgiving and, most times, does self-correct. This also results in a candle with a longer burn time.

NEVER BURN CANDLE FOR LONGER THAN 4 HOURS

An ideal candle burn time is between 2 and 4 hours - if burned longer your candle may overheat, which breaks down the scent particles. Burning your candle for longer than 4 hours could also cause the candle to burn too hot, which is extremely dangerous. 

REPURPOSE YOUR VESSEL - 

When only 1/2 inch of wax remains in the vessel (especially if you start to see the silver wick clip), your candle is finished. To clean out remaining wax, carefully pour hot water into vessel and allow to sit until water cools. Wax will melt and float to top of vessel. Repeat, if needed. Clean with a papertowel & dish soap. Let dry and restyle your new vessel!

Almost all of our vessels can be reused! We suggest reusing our jar or tin vessels as flower vases, succulent vessels, desk decor, etc.  We also suggest reusing your dough bowls for holiday decor, etc.

Each scent blend we create is a collection of various scent notes. Scent notes are individual, single-scent accords, in which we blend together to create a 'scent blend.' We use many individual notes and accords to create a well-layered, complex blend, instead of a single-ingredient scent.  This creates a true 'home fragrance.' 

Each note can be broken into three categories: top notes, middle notes or base notes.

Top notes are the notes you smell immediately, they're your 'first impression,' so to speak.  You smell top notes most on the 'cold throw,' which is when the candle is not burning.  Think of this as the first notes you smell when opening up a brand new Applewood candle, or while smelling candles off the shelf at a local boutique. Often times, these notes are citrus or herbal notes, and occasionally can be a light floral.  Once a candle has been burning for 60-90 minutes, you do not typically notice the top notes as they begin to dissipate. 

Middle notes are often called the 'heart' of the fragrance. You can smell them through the top notes, after the top notes dissipate and you can still catch bursts of this scent through the entire burn of the candle. Middle notes are your 'complex' or 'unique' notes - they're the 'attention grabbers' of the fragrance.  Middle notes are often floral, spicy or fruity.  

Base notes are the true foundation of the fragrance, and often times you don't smell the true base note profile until after the candle has been burning for 2 hours.  These notes are the rich, woodsy accords, often times being described as masculine or moody.  Almost all of our scent blends have a base of sandalwood, as it is my personal favorite base note, and I try to incorporate it as often as possible. Other base notes include teakwood or cedar, warm amber, musk and vanilla or tonka bean.

Cedar: Earthy and grounding, cedar provides a sturdy base, anchoring the fragrance with a sense of strength.

Champagne: Effervescent and celebratory, champagne infuses a touch of bubbly elegance, adding a sense of sophistication.

Garden Mint: Fresh and invigorating, garden mint contributes a cool and herbaceous essence, enhancing the overall freshness.

Ginger: Warm and aromatic, ginger brings a comforting and fresh spiciness to a blend, which is often refreshing and uplifting.

Grapefruit: A crisp and slightly bitter accord with strong aromatics. Invites a refreshing and invigorating element that becomes the dominant citrus in the blend.

Sea Salt: One of our founder's favorite scent accords, sea salt adds a hint of coastal freshness to the final blend.  Sea Salt is often described as crisp, refreshing and serene, making it a perfect note to add balance to many different scent types.

Shea Butter: Smooth and buttery, shea butter contributes a luxurious and velvety richness.

T - 

Teakwood: Rich and woody, teakwood adds a grounding base note that embodies warmth, depth and sophistication.

Tobacco: Earthy, smoky, and slightly sweet, tobacco brings a hint of indulgence and warmth, infusing the fragrance with a touch of sensuality and mystery.

Tonka Bean: Sweet and warm, tonka bean provides a comforting and cozy foundation, adding a touch of indulgence. Similar to vanilla bean, while being cozy and creamy, without the sweetness typically added with vanilla.

Vanilla: Smooth and creamy, vanilla enhances the cozy and inviting nature of a scent profile.

W -

White Santal: Woody and creamy, white santal contributes a smooth and velvety texture, enhancing the overall luxurious feel. A form of sandalwood with slightly more upscale properties.

White Tea: Crisp, clean, and subtly floral, white tea evokes a sense of purity and tranquility. White Tea is one of our favorite accords, as it brings a serene and uplifting quality to the fragrance, setting the stage for the complexities that follow.
