Why Clean Ingredients Matter

Our founder, Allison, learned that many "clean" candles still hide harmful toxins... and everything for her changed! What began as a mission to find safe, non-toxic scents she could confidently burn around her golden retriever, Magnolia, became Applewood Candle Co.!  The standards are simple: if it's not safe enough for our own home, it isn't going into yours! 

Clean, Non-Toxic Fragrance

We believe luxury home fragrance should never come at the expense of what you bring into your home. That's why every Applewood fragrance is thoughtfully developed using ingredients that meet our rigorous clean fragrance standards. Our scents are always free from phthalates, parabens, Prop 65 chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, and other known toxins, allowing you to enjoy beautiful home fragrance with confidence. While we thoughtfully incorporate essential oils, we don't believe that "all-natural" automatically means safer. Some essential oils naturally contain compounds that have been flagged for toxicity or sensitization concerns, which is why we evaluate every ingredient individually. In some cases, a carefully formulated clean fragrance oil is actually the cleaner and safer choice. Rather than limiting ourselves to a single ingredient category, we select the safest, highest-performing materials available so every fragrance meets our standards for safety.

Premium Coconut-Soy Wax

Our candles are crafted with a premium coconut-soy wax blend made from renewable, plant-based resources. This clean-burning wax produces minimal soot, provides exceptional fragrance throw and burns more slowly and evenly than many traditional candle waxes. The result is a longer-lasting candle that fills your space with scent while supporting a cleaner burn from the first light to the final glow.

Crackling Wooden Wicks

Every Applewood candle features an FSC-certified wooden wick sourced from responsibly managed forests. Unlike traditional cotton wicks, our uncoated wooden wicks create a gentle crackling sound reminiscent of a cozy fireplace while helping to deliver a clean, even burn. Thoughtfully chosen for both performance and ambiance, they're one of the details that make an Applewood candle feel like a small everyday luxury.

Your ideal candle experience begins with proper care. Follow these simple candle care tips to enjoy a cleaner burn, stronger scent throw and longer candle life from your candle.

Trim Your Wooden Wick

Before each burn, trim your wooden wick to ⅛–3⁄16 inch and remove any loose char. A properly trimmed wick helps promote an even melt pool, a steady flame and a clean-burning candle experience. 

Enjoy Safely

For best results, burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time and never longer than 4 hours. Keep candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans, children, pets, and anything flammable. Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Let the Wax Melt

During your first burn, allow the melted wax to almost reach the edge of the vessel. Because our candles are made with clean coconut-soy wax, a full melt pool may take several burns to develop... and that's completely normal.

Quick Troubleshooting

Small flame? Trim the wick and remove excess char.
Soot or smoking? The wick may be too long or exposed to a draft.
Uneven burn? Extend your next burn session and move the candle away from airflow.

Reuse Your Vessel

Once approximately ½ inch of wax remains, it's time to retire your candle. Clean the vessel with hot water and mild soap, then repurpose it as a catch-all for brushes, pens, matches, cotton rounds, or other everyday essentials.
